Overview

The people of this country have appreciated transcendental presences of the Buddha and bodhisattvas beyond the distant sky, and have longed after them. It may be said that Buddhist art was created by those driven by such longing.

In this exhibition, we showcase excellent Buddhist art, with a focus on treasures kept by temples and shrines throughout the Kinki area. Please enjoy our the many forms of prayer of those who came before us, alongside the concurrent In Praise of Tempyo Period exhibition.
